Chapel Recommendations for Veganuary

Since its inception in 2014 it is now thought that over half a million people in 178 countries adapt their culinary tastes and lifestyle to become vegan for January – some for just the month but many beyond. In case you decide to give it a go here is our take on the current vegan only restaurants which have recently appeared in our city.

Jaunty Goat - Northgate Street

Newly opened January 2019 and sister site to the popular Jaunty Goat on Bridge Street.

An entirely plant-based coffee shop situated in the heart of the ever-growing ‘Northgate Quarter’, The vegan cafe retains the brands genuine hospitality and passion for coffee in a bright, communal space, filled with plants and minimalist decor. We are lovers of their porridge and also crispy cauliflower!

128 Northgate Street Chester.

Hypha - City Walls

In February 2019 our first plant based vegan restaurant opened, secretly tucked away within the city walls. Furnished with a trendy and contemporary interior think hanging planters, pendant lighting and reclaimed wood. Currently open from Thurs - Sunday but do check their website as this may change. Offering a small plate menu with seasonally changing dishes such as roast cauliflower with baba ganoush dressing, avocado caesar salad, roast jerusalem artichoke hummus with flat bread, carrot and pear salad and other dishes as well as bites, extras and sweets.

Vegan Deva - City Walls

Another newcomer to the city and again a hidden gem within the city walls. This day time cafe is a licensed with a retail section selling all things vegan. In addition to coffee their lunch offering such as panini’s, buddha bowls, smoothies, protein balls and cakes are all worth a try along with a selection of wine, beers and ciders.

Verde's - Chester Market

Our recently re-energised Chester market in the Forum shopping centre has become a real foodie hub for independents. In December 2019 it welcomed Verde which is a relaxed cafe positioned in the centre of the market offering plant-based food such as a burger, sandwiches and scrambled eggless on toast.

Have we tempted you to give it a try? x
